Packing for a hike is one thing. Packing for a hike and a creative session in the wild? That’s a delicate art form. You want to stay light but prepared, creative but practical.
Here’s my go-to packing list that balances both.
🖌️ Your Artist Essentials
Pocket watercolor set (pan format preferred)
Water brush pens (saves on cleanup!)
Pencil + kneaded eraser
Sketchbook (5×7 travel size)
Mini spray bottle (optional)
A small towel or reusable napkin
🥾 Trail Essentials
Hydration bottle or water bladder
Trail snacks (jerky, nuts, dried fruit)
Lightweight jacket or layer
Sunscreen + bug spray
Mini first aid kit
Small mat or camp stool
🎒 Storage Tips
Zip pouch or pencil roll for brushes
Clip or tape for securing paper on windy days
Ziploc bag for used napkins or trash
Pack it all in a daypack with side access
💡 Pro Tip:
Keep your “trail sketch kit” pre-packed so it’s ready whenever the mood (or weather) strikes.
